John Lambert letters to Thomas Adams, 1772-1801.

59 letters written by John Lambert to Thomas Adams, agent for the Dukes of Northumberland. Adams commissioned Lambert to execute various mapmaking and planning projects, and the often lengthy, highly detailed letters are mainly reports on the status of individual tasks and descriptions of the maps and drawings they were apparently written to accompany. Projects discussed include a "view of Durham Abbey and the New Bridge," a plan of Percy's Cross, a map of Ovington Fishery, a plan of North Berwick, and drawings of a cornice for Alnwick Church and of "the Duchess's monument." A few letters contain interlinear small sketches or graphs, although none of the maps and drawings described in the letters are present in the collection.
